Always from a young age I have always been interested in computers, designing and being creative. However, like many young students it isn't always easy to know what type of degree and future to pursue. Originally for my University applications I did not even consider Interactive Media as one of my first choices, that's because I never knew it existed as I didn't consider it as an option from my initial research as at the time I wanted to pursue a degree in business or computing.
The courses I applied for were mainly business courses that had aspects of computing and advertising, I originally accepted an offer from the Magee campus to study a degree in Business Studies with Computing. However, on results day I decided I no longer wanted to pursue a degree that was heavily business orientated, and that I wanted a degree that would bring me in the media industry as this is a category that is so vast and where I could see myself having a career in.
Therefore, through clearing I researched into one course that particularly stood out to me, this being Interactive Media. I got in touch with the course director Adrian Hickey and he emailed me the module handbook and after a short time of reading about what the course entails I was immediately interested. Therefore, declined my offer from Magee and now I am about to finish my second year of Interactive Media and looking back I definitely made the right choice, from learning how to use Photoshop, Indesign, HTML, CSS and Javascript, to using camera equipment properly, editing and creating my own narratives. I have thoroughly enjoyed what this course has had to offer me so far, and I am looking forward to the upcoming future.
