Game of Thrones was one of a select few popular examples of transmedia storytelling, a series of fantasy novels, with the first being released in August 1996, written by George R. R. Martin. Adapted as a television series by HBO in 2011, and currently the worlds most popular and in demand television series.
As the television series is about to enter its eighth and final series, this will not be the end of Game of Thrones across other multimedia platforms. There are a number of video games which are already released, however none really reaching major success. However, there is talk of the release of a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG). Prominent examples are as such World of Warcraft and The Lord of the Rings online, both of which have have massive commercial success worldwide. With such demand, it is fair to state that The Lord of the Rings will become the new Game of Thrones, both originally a book, and now look at the number of platforms The Lord of the Rings has been spread across. A major success anywhere you look in any form, Game of Thrones has such popular demand that it will be a money making empire that will continue in the years to come.
Therefore to summarise, it is clear to see that the likes of a commercially successful book can spread across a number of different media platforms gaining success in a number of platforms as previously mentioned, in particular, TV and gaming. From analysing all that I have researched I hope to apply this recently gained knowledge for my own personal work, for example, in my re-adaption of my chosen book Animal Farm.
