WHAT EXACTLY IS TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING?

I have briefly discussed already what transmedia storytelling is about, however have not elaborated on it enough. Therefore this post will clarify everything:

Transmedia storytelling, which is also known as another few commonly known terms such as - transmedia narrative / transmedia multi platform storytelling. This is the concept of telling a story across a variety of media platforms, with the likes of novels, films, video games, comic books, or even apps on your phone or other smart device. However, each giving the user a different experience, you cannot say you will have the same user experience from playing a video game or reading a book on the same story. But that is the beauty of transmedia, being able to adapt the same story across a number of different platforms to give us all that unique experience.

Dr. Pamela Rutledge refers to it in a great way "Like a giant puzzle, each piece also contributes to a larger narrative." Meaning that each piece is increasing in quantity, that individually they add that extra detail to the story as a whole.

If we are looking at transmedia from the production point of view, then this is the concept of creating content that engages an audience through a number of various ways, which can even an audiences daily lives. To achieve this interaction, a transmedia production will develop upon stories over a variety of different multimedia platforms with the ultimate goal of delivering unique pieces of content. Nuno Bernardo from his latest book (shown below) - The Producer's Guide to Transmedia. Tells us that from a production perspective, these are not only linked together but are in narrative synchronisation, he tells readers in this book how those within the TV and Film industry can use transmedia to conquer global audiences.
