From my initial research into transmedia storytelling I came across a number of different examples, however, the example that caught my attention was the transmedia world of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. J.R.R is the author of these collection of books, he is responsible for many other masterpieces, however these are the ones that have major worldwide success. They where so successful that they've become one of the worlds most successful and beloved film franchises, I decided to further my research into this and find out more about transmedia storytelling into relation to these books / films.
I came across an article that answered the questions I was wondering: https://fms110spring2014.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/the-transmedia-world-of-the-lord-of-the-rings/
From this article it gave me a number of examples of how a majorly successful book by Tolkien was transferred across a number of different multi media platforms, appealing to a number of different audiences. With the likes of Peter Jackson directing the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, this trilogy was a success worldwide. With the final movie in the trilogy 'The Return of the King', holding the record for the most Academy awards for for a single film in 2003. Since the original trilogy another trilogy was released, also directed by Peter Jackson, this time based on The Hobbit, although they were not quite as successful, it is hard to beat the original trilogy after all, they were still a major success, and between all the films behind they made billions worldwide.
The article states 'The story portrays peoples such as Hobbits, Elves, Men, Dwarves, Wizards and Goblins and centers on the Ring of Power made by the Dark Lord Sauron.' Opening our imagination to a whole new world of fantasy and adventure. What I learnt most importantly from this article was that the world of 'Mordor' created by Tolkien is one of the best well known examples of transmedia storytelling. This book has expanded into a variety of different media platforms including, film, video games, comics and online Wiki's.
I can take the knowledge I have acquired from such prominent figures, in this case the likes of Tolkien and Jackson and attempt to adapt their methods when creating my own story over a variety of different platforms, hopefully this will be come in use with my chosen book Animal Farm.
